Summary/Objective

The Coatings Team Lead must observe all relevant actions related to coatings quality through production and work individually with each painter and be knowledgeable to ensure jobs are running correctly. Operates the wet/powder paint spray system to apply coatings to fabricated metal products as well as operate and maintain the polyurea application system.

Duties and responsibilities

• Ensures all employees are following safety guidelines and safety training methods, working in a safe manner and have all safety equipment necessary to perform tasks assigned to them.
• Confers with coatings supervisor to coordinate production jobs and activities within coatings.
• Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions and reporting any concerns to coatings supervisor
• Prepares, match colors and mix standard and other primers, paints and coatings to proper consistency and viscosity, using thinners, solvents, additives and agitators as required. Select pressures, nozzles, oven temperatures, cure times.
• Uniformly applies wet primers, paints, and wet or dry coatings to parts and components and other items using care to avoid over spraying/coating and to obtain a smooth, covered and even surface free from runs and thin spots. Repeat operations as necessary to obtain desired effect or thickness of media.
• Ability to train employees the correct ways of running different coatings work centers.
• Turns dials, valves, or switches to regulate machine temperature, air pressure and circulation and the flow or spray of coatings or paints.
• Operates auxiliary machines equipment used in coating or painting processes.
• Verifying routing times that have been provided and achieving those times and maintaining times throughout the coatings process as well as looking ahead for upcoming work
• Observes all relevant actions related to coatings quality throughout production and work closely with coatings supervisor
• Creates and maintain a clean and organized shop and work areas: no tools laying around work areas and old fixtures are not laid about weld areas
• Reinforces Jtec Core Values within the Company.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
• Have at least 5 years production manufacturing experience, preferably in a coating application industry
• Supervisory experience is preferred, but not required
